Sunflowers/Fitting in
This book is wonderful to use if you are studying life cycles, particularly of bees and butterflies. However, there is also the message that everyone must find there own path in life, just as the moonflower in this book had to do. I first read this book during my student teaching in a third grade bilingual classroom. Now I am planning to read this story again in my bilingual kindergarten classroom as we embark on a study of butterflies. My third grade students loved the story, and I know my kindergarten students will too!

Glenn Miller and His Orchestra
Published in Paperback by DaCapo Press (April, 1988)
Authors: George Thomas Simon and Bing Crosby
Average review score:

Great Book on Glenn Miller
I've always loved the music of Glenn Miller. Especially being a swing dancer. What makes this book so great is Mr. Simon was there with Glenn and the orchestra, pitching in on drums for backup, and involved in every aspect. He was associated with Glenn during those great years of the Big Bands. His personal way of talking to the reader makes you feel like you were there, too. You become intimately involved in his life, through scores of wonderul photos, diary entries, and interviews with others who knew Glenn well. You also are introduced to many of the band members. After reading this book, I feel like I know not just Glenn, but Marion Hutton, Trigger Alpert, and all the other wonderful musicians who made the most wonderful music in the history of the world.

I used to wish I could travel back in time to the swing era, and witness bands like Glenn Miller's live. Now, after reading this book, I feel like I have.

Glimmer Of Hope
Published in Paperback by Averette Publications, Inc (01 January, 1998)
Authors: Francois Sigrist, A.D. Miller, and Francois Sigrist
Average review score:

"Glimmer Of Hope" shines with optimism
How does one go from being a top master chef to an up and coming fiction writer? Just ask Francois Sigrist, former master chef and author of the new book, "Glimmer Of Hope". A pinch of patience, a dash of creativity, a heaping spoonful of confidence will probably be found among his recipes for success. A native of Switzerland, Sigrist was trained in Europe as a master chef. He practiced this profession for over twenty five years, with positions in France, Germany, Italy, England, Canada, Central and South America and the United States. Among his clients have been Queen Elizabeth of England, and the Rolling Stones. Seeking a way to unwind, Sigrist discovered writing in his journal helped him to relax after his hectic days. He has devoted the last several years to documenting his impressions of people, places and human behavior. This first novel, "Glimmer Of Hope", reflects his observations and contacts with people all over the world, and the lessons he has learned from his experiences. "Glimmer of Hope" is a unique work in its lack of overt obscenity and stand against drugs, and its admirable attempt to build self-confidence and esteem through a strong, positive storyline. Another unique feature of "Glimmer of Hope" is the clues to a mystery contest which are woven into the plot of the story. The tale deals with the misadventures of Alex Beard and his struggle for wholeness after suffering the loss of a twin brother, estrangement from his father, and life-threatening hardships faced while living on the streets. Throughout his battles against enemies who prove to be more than human, and with the help of an interesting assortment of mortal friends and guardian angels, Alex searches for his way home. Clues scattered throughout the story help the reader to discover for themselves the place where Alex calls home. Readers who figure out where Alex's hometown is are encouraged to enter a contest, with a grand prize of $25,000. Contest rules, listed in the back of the book, give the dealine for entries as December 31, 1998. Readers can check out an example of the clues on the publisher's website at www.treasurebook.com, in addition to learning more about the author and the book. Francois Sigrist surely has come across the right recipe for creating books with the power of positive thinking as the main ingredient. Readers of "Glimmer of Hope" will come away with a feeling of satisfaction, and possibly a little bit richer.

The Glorious Revolution (2nd Edition)
Published in Textbook Binding by ADDIS (September, 1997)
Author: John Miller
Average review score:

Excellent summary of 1688 and its consequences
This is the best short introduction to England's 1688 revolution and the consequences that flowed from it. It is an updated version of an earlier edition, and it pays greater attention than its predecessor to the revolution in England's public finances that stemmed from 1688. It also has new material on Scotland and Ireland. The choice of original documents to accompany the text is excellent.

The Glucose Revolution Pocket Guide to Diabetes
Published in Mass Market Paperback by Marlowe & Company (12 March, 2000)
Authors: Kaye Foster-Powell, Stephen Colaguiri, Jennie Brand-Miller, and Thomas M.S. Wolever
Average review score:

Works better than low carbs
By concentrating on the low GI foods the authors recommend, I've been able to keep my blood sugar stable between 80 and 120 all day and night. I'm full without feeling stuffed or sick, and I get to eat a wide range of low cost, perfectly normal foods. No more expensive snack bars or costly meat, meat, meat!

I tried low carbs and those plans didn't work for me. With low carbs, my blood sugar would tank before meals triggering horrible migrain symptoms. I don't get that any more and can just eat normally, without forcing myself to eat for fear of getting hungry and triggering a headache or the dreaded blue flashes. I really do feel so much better and my blood sugar testing clearly shows that my sugar is well controlled even after a high carb meal, provided I eat the carbs recommended in The Glucose Revolution.

I think you'll be suprised at how easy and satisfying these foods are. Normal foods. Normal eating schedule. Normal blood sugar levels. Gotta love it. This booklet is well, well worth the money. Don't hesitate to buy it.

Renewing!
I went through this book after purchasing it a year ago. At the end of each day, I would read & reflect upon the corresponding scripture, story and inspiration for that particular day. I found this to be a relaxing, prayerful way to wind down for an evening of peaceful slumber. On January 1st, I began the book again. Now, my husband joins me. We alternate evenings, reading the day's passage to each other. I highly recommend this book to anyone wishing to re-focus and simplify...it will help you recognize and appreciate God's abundance in your own life!

Thought Provoking
The quotes and scripture verses encourage Christ-centered thinking. It challenges the believer to grow and think on the Lord. One example is, "Swallow your pride occasionally. It is non-fattening." The scripture reference is Proverbs 29:23. We share these with our church one every Sunday morning to help get us in the worship mode. I highly recommend this book!
